Qualify for status with Loyalty Points
Loyalty Points are the new way to reach AAdvantage® status. You’ll qualify for status based on the Loyalty Points posted to your account for the 12-month period starting on March 1 of each year. And, the new AAdvantage® status membership year is valid through March 31 of each year.
You’ll earn Loyalty Points as you earn eligible AAdvantage® miles whenever you fly, use an AAdvantage® credit card for purchases, or earn eligible miles with AAdvantage® partners. One eligible AAdvantage® mile equals one Loyalty Point.

Qualification and membership year period
The status qualification year starts on March 1 and runs through the last day of February of the following year.
- For example, in 2024, your counter will restart on March 1, 2024, and run through February 28, 2025.
- The membership year (when your status is valid) takes effect the date you qualify, or April 1 (whichever comes first) and will be valid through March 31.
AAdvantage® miles and Loyalty Points earned on posted purchases made with your AAdvantage® credit card will count based on the transaction date captured in the cardmember’s credit card account. AAdvantage® miles and Loyalty Points typically post to the applicable AAdvantage® account within 8 to 10 weeks. Keep in mind, Loyalty Points from credit card purchases that show a transaction date on or after March 1 count toward the new qualification year.
All other flight and partner transactions will count based on the activity date of the flight or other transaction.
How March statements work?
As an example, if your monthly AAdvantage® credit card statement closes on March 5 (which includes purchases posted to your credit card account between February 6 and March 5), all the Loyalty Points earned from purchases made between February 6 through 29 will count toward 2024 status. All Loyalty Points earned between March 1 and 5 count toward the 2025 qualification year.
It may take up to 8 – 10 weeks after March 5 to post to your account, in this example.

- Upgrades from Main Cabin or Premium Economy to the next class of service on flights within/between the U.S. (including Hawaii), Canada, Mexico, the Bahamas, Bermuda, the Caribbean and Central America
- AAdvantage® status members get unlimited, auto-requested complimentary upgrades for themselves plus 1 companion traveling on the same flight
On Alaska Airlines flights:
- Upgrades from Main Cabin to the next class of service on Alaska Airlines
- AAdvantage® status members plus one companion traveling in the same reservation get unlimited, auto-requested complimentary upgrades

Loyalty Point Rewards
You’ll receive the option to choose from a variety of rewards that enhance your experience such as a systemwide upgrade, an award discount, Admirals Club® One Day Passes and more. You’ll experience more rewards even before reaching status – and more often after you do.
Track your progress toward reaching these reward levels in your account. Once you reach these goals, your reward choices will be available in your AAdvantage® account.
